A Color of His Own, Leo Lionni

2010/05/07

In this beautifully illustrated picture book, a chameleon becomes tired of changing colors with his surroundings, and decides to stay in one place to be constant. However, he chooses a leaf, which changes color with the seasons. When the spring comes, he meets another chameleon and tells him his story, and they become friends, staying together and changing colors together.

Like all of Lionni’s works, this one is vibrant and colorful, and lends itself well to read-aloud and storytimes. Lionni, an Italian painter, wrote over forty children’s books, of which four were Caldecott Honor books.
