Verdi, Janell Cannon

2010/05/07

In this companion to Stellaluna, a baby python named Verdi decides that he wants to stay young and yellow instead of growing up to be green and lazy like the other snakes. Verdi teaches himself to fly by launching off of whippy tree branches, but even this does not prevent him from starting to molt and change colors. He tries scrubbing himself in the river and coating himself in mud to keep from becoming green. But after a terrible accident, Verdi hears stories from the older snakes, and learns the value of being still and quiet some times, a lesson which parents will appreciate!

Penciled illustrations complement the full-color paintings on alternating pages. Two pages at the end discuss the growth cycle of snakes, their diet, and some interesting facts.
